Outram Secondary was first recognized as a centre of Excellence (COE) for Business & Enterprise in 2007. in 2011, we were awarded with the Niche Programme Status in this area.  We are pleased to announce that Outram Secondary School Business and Enterprise (B & E) has been recognized as an Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in 2014.

We see this as recognition of the rigour and effectiveness of the processes that we have in place to provide Business Education for all students in a systematic, progressive manner.

Over their stay with us, all students learn business related concepts such as traits of successful Entrepreneurs, Branding and Marketing, and how to present ideas logically and persuasively in the form of a Business Plan. Concepts of Entrepreneurship, Enterprise and Financial Literacy are also integrated into the formal curriculum,

As an ALP at Outram, our programmes are designed to connect academic knowledge and skills with the real world. In recognition of the diverse interests and talents of our students, our intent is to help students appreciate the relevance and value of what they are learning in the academic curriculum and develop stronger motivation and purpose to acquire knowledge, skills and values.

With that in mind, we also cater to the needs of students who have greater interest and inclination in these areas. At Upper Secondary, they have the option to take up as N/O level subjects, Retail Operations, Principles of Accounts (POA) and Business Studies or ). In Singapore, we are the only school offering Business Studies as a GCE O level subject. In addition, we also offer our students Advanced Elective Modules (AEMs) in topics such as Essentials of Marketing, Introduction to Tourism and Hospitality and Theme Park Attractions – Ride the Action. These are held at the Polytechnics, and they help give our students greater depth and understanding of the external business world. If they decide to further their studies in business related areas, the learning experiences with the AEMs will certainly give them an edge over their contemporaries.

POA students have the opportunity to take up the Pearson-LCCI external certification. Through these courses, students’ knowledge in accounting and other business related subjects are further enhanced, and they are awarded with a certificate as well.
