Racial Harmony Day

The Singapore Way

In commemoration of Racial Harmony Day this year, a series of activities was organised for Outramians. In a joint effort between the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the National Education Committee, interactive activities were organised for the lower secondary students. The Secondary One students played a variety of traditional games like chapteh and five stones to experience how the children in the past spent their free time. The Secondary Two classes competed in a racial costume face-off as they fought against time to dress up ‘models’ for a racial costume catwalk. The activities saw the students enjoying themselves and learning about the different races meaningfully.

The school was treated to a delightful dance performance by a dance troupe which performed dances that represented the major races in Singapore: Chinese, Malay and Indian. Students were also given an opportunity to go on stage to try out the dance moves.

Rounding up the celebration of Racial Harmony Day, traditional snacks sponsored by the PTA were distributed to all staff and students. It was indeed the Singapore Way as we commemorated the occasion with what Singaporeans love most, food.
